beardylover is on a distinguished road
Re: Chameleons....

I have had a chamelion and a bearded dragon.....out of choice after having both I would go for the beardy every time. Chamelions are fun to watch for a while but thats about it! They love their viv and can be reluctant to be handled, they also take a lot of looking after, the beardy on the other hand is completely different, he gets excited when I get home form work and loves nothing more than a cuddle and fuss, easy to look after as well for a first time reptile owner...... the chamelions are good fun to watch though when they are feeding...

Viv size the chamelion needs height rather than width as they love climbing....2ft wide is ample for an adult chamelion, would need at least that again in height if not more. Beardy's need width more than height....mine is 4ft wide by 2ft high.

Good luck on your research...

Re: Chameleons....

I have recently bought a chameleon and love him!!

I have had reptiles before (many years ago!) so do have experience of them, but if you're set on a cham then i'd do loads of research, and go for it. Why buy an animal you dont really want??

They arent really that hard to look after, they just dont tolerate mistakes as well as other reps. The main thing with them is ventilation and humidity! I use a 100gallon flexarium for mine (look on ebay, they're not expensive) with a uv strip light, spotlight and heat bulb places at the top for basking so he can move down if he wants cooler temps. You have to mist the cage 2-3 times a day to keep humidity up, and live plants also help with that. They wont drink still water so you have to make sure to mist the branches as they drink the water droplets from them. I have noticed that baby chams seem to eat a LOT! Mine gets though a tub of crickets every 4 or 5 days.

Here's some pics of my little man. I got him before xmas and he's dead cute!! He is actually really friendly, loves to be handled!! So i make sure to get him out each day to keep him friendly.

If you have any questions just ask!!

I've also kept various snakes, gekos and iguanas so i might be able to help with them too.
