Re: opinions on best substrate please

I use Limestone flour, which is 99.9% calcium carbonate. Cuttlefish can be used however going by what I've heard most of it is Calcium phosphate, which supposedely is insoluble (and more or less unusable), can anyone shed some light on this?

Don't use the cuttlefish chuck, just buy powdered calcium (for reptiles of course) dust the crickets/worms/locusts every feed but dust the food with neutrobal twice a week.

Please, just dont use the cuttlefish. They are the best thing for birds and snails, not reptiles.

Thanks Lottie only thought of using cuttlefish as i saw an ad on ebay for pieces of cuttlefish for birds and reptiles so it says! why do you need to use seperate calcium to dust with as well as neutrobal as i thought that has everything in it?

Re: opinions on best substrate please

Nutrobal does indeed contain all the vitamins and minerals your lizard needs but the problem is that it contains a tiny amount of calcium so that you get a decent amount of vitamins in a tub. Your animal needs calcium every feed and the vitamins only once or twice a week.
If i'm right, cuttlefish bone has lots of calcium but also a lot of phosphorous which cancels out the effect of the calcium.

I'm quite sure you can feed lambs lettuce, however I haven't heard of the other so I wouldn't know.

However, the staple green of a Beardies diet should be spring greens. Simply because they are high in calcium.
