Re: sheding skin

Your better to leave him too it

I think (but dont quote me on this) that if you start pulling it off it can damage the scales... i think. But when mine ever sheds I always just leave him to it and he does fine.

Re: sheding skin

Leave him to shed by himself. Only intervene if he's struggling

Re: sheding skin

Mine has been shedding a week now, its very tempting to want to pull it off, i did have a little try but it was stuck on so i left it, he just has a bit on his tail now, how long does it normally take?

Re: sheding skin

the shedding should be left unlessthey are having problems. one of mine has part of his tail missing and sometimes the tip needs help. I also sometimes pull bits if they are really hanging and the nostrils as that looks really uncomfortable when its loose. you should always check they have shed properly and check their digits to make sure nothing is left afterwards. to helo them shed you can give them a nice warm bath and steam (i use a large plastic box with the lid on).

As for the time it takes to shed it depends on how much is shedding. i have one whos just shed his face and toes but not the rest of the body and one whos just shed his lips.

The Licking behaviour is to help them smell things. they get the scent on the tip of thier tongue and then smell it from the roof of their mouth. mine do it more when i put them outside in their run or when they are free ranging in the house.

When ine scratch on their vivs its becasue they want to come out for a run. One of them, Piglet, also does it when he needs to poo. he also climbs a lot more then the other one and makes a mess with his water.

he thermostat itself should be outside the viv with the heat lamp and the heat detector thing inside somewhere where the beardie can bask, the UV light should be just a few inches away from the basking site. the temeprature should be set dirfferently depending on age of the beardie and the time of day and year etc. you can usually find this info online or in a good book.

Hope that answers everything
