Best heaters
Today i got a ceramic heater, it was very confusing with all the different bulbs etc but i settled for a day glo fitting in small and a ceramic heater in 100 watts.
Just fitted it and within mins the thermometer had gone off the scale and the beardie had moved off his beloved rock so i have switched it off and he is now sat back on his heat rock. obviously i have made an error somewhere but i really didnt know which one to get, a friend has given me a heat bulb that also gives off light, its a flatish bulb but i dont know the wattage, i also have another bulb that came with his old viv which is curly and looks like a normal enegy lightbulb. Now im confused as to which one he should have???????

Re: Best heaters
Ceramic heaters really aren't necessary, a normal 100w household reflector bulb, is fine. The 100w bulb though is being phazed out, so if you can buy quite a few of them, I just bought 10 from ebay for less that £10 including postage.
Beardies prefer their heat in the form of a light, not from underneath with a heat rock or mat. I would get rid of that heat rock (I think it might have been you that I mentioned this to in another thread you made?) All bulbs need to be on a dimming thermostat too. |

Re: Best heaters
Dimming stats cost around £40-50. They really are necessary, rather than just using a low wattage bulb.
For example, in the summer time, the ambient temperature rises. If it goes above the temperature set on the thermostat, they bulb will either dim (as it names suggests) or even turn off completely. If you don't have your bulb on a stat, the temperature will keep rising inside the viv. During that hot spell we had in June, there were a few occasions where my beardies bulb wasn't even on. I know that doesn't happen very often, but for piece of mind incase it malfunctions, it really is a necessity. |
