Beadie Question

We have had our beardies since they were little, and fed them on hoppers, i have decided to change to mealworms as they seem to last longer and my beardies seem to like them better, they will however still get hoppers once or twice a week.

Well earlier on I looked in the tank and a saw that one of the lizards and pooed out the mealworms whole...it looked like they hadn't been digested at all, and today they just aren't interested in the food at all.

Could this be due to it getting colder and they are getting ready for Brumation?

many thanks in advance

First of all, Meal worms should not be a supplement diet, they dont have lots of nutrients in them. They should be on crickets atleast 6 times a week, and have mealworms in with the veggies....That will keep the diet good, and give them about 10 locusts once a week. For the beardies pooing them out whole. Well that is either because you have made them your supplement diet, or because the viv temp isnt high enough... How high is it? In the cool end and hot end?

Re: Beadie Question

we have only recently changed to the mealworms...we can't have crickets because they were getting out the viv and into to rest of the house =/ i will stock up on hoppers again. I did put some hoppers in earlier but like i said they just completely ignored them.

the cool side of the tank is about 25-26 and the hot side of the tank is from 30-34C

Hmm, Im not sure how you can stop them going around the house, But they have to be fed on crickets, The hoppers are only for a bit of fun, they dont have any really good stuff in them. Are you feeding them every other day on veggies? BTW, The tempretures are good, how hot is it in the basking spot?

hmm..i shall have a think on the cricket side of things. I might be able to pick up a cricket feeder or something from somewhere. I put fresh veg in everyday for them yea.

Im not to sure about how hot the backing spot is, it in on the hot side of the tank but i do know its alot hotter than the rest of the tank, they have a log under it about 6 inches away from it. It's a 150w bulb that we use for it

Re: Beadie Question

hey bexy, bordie has given some good advice there, i cant really add anything to it, altho with the cricket issue what i do is get a load of crickets in a bag or a tub or whateva u use to dust them in, then put ur beardie in the bath and just empty a few crickets in at a time next to him and hell gobble them up, this way u wont get any escaped crickets just make sure u put the plug in the plug hole lol.
