thank you i shall have to try that one, i think we must have a hole in the viv somewhere that they have been getting out of haha

Re: Beadie Question

Crickets are horrible little things, as you already said, they are very hood escape artists.
You can just feed locusts. They are more expensive, but they have a higher gut loading content, are easier to catch and tend not to escape much.
I buy a half bulk bag of 50-70 medium locusts for £8 delivered, which with 1 adult beardie last 7-10 days.

Mealworms have a high chitin level in their exo skeletons which can be difficult to digest. I personally only feed them as a treat, once a month because of this.
Usually a sign of undigested insects in stools is low temperatures.

How close do you feed him to lights out?

It's possible it could be parasites as I have read that can cause undigested food in stools.

My advice would be to up his temperatures a little, get his basking spot up to atleast 105f (40 c) and see if the problem improves over the next week or so. If it doesn't, book in with your vet and take a stool sample for parasite analysis.

I have to disagree!!!! Locusts are very hard to catch, and harly have a gut on them....

Well being bigger, it makes sense. They are a lot meatier than crickets too.

If you drop a cricket into the viv, it will more than likely quickly scuttle off. A locust tends to stay quite still and then hop into the air, not really going that far.
Even without these pro's, just the fact they don't tend to escape like crickets do should be enough to make anyone use locusts.

But if you look at the abdomen of the cricket, it clearly has a lot of gut, but the locust just has a thin abdomen.

There you can see a thick and fat abdomen..

But as you see on this one, its not as fat and thick.... Its just a bit of fun for beardies really...

Re: Beadie Question

Hhhhhm that's hard to tell from those pictures. They could be different instars, so at different stages to each other. Pound for pound, pro's vs cons, Locusts are better livefood than crickets.

Well what in your opinion are the pro's and con's? But crickets excaping wouldnt be one, because that is dues to the viv having a hole, or being careless.....

By PM? Well all the pros and cons of crickets are....

Pro's

1) Very high in nutrient.
2) Easy to get hold of in shops
3) Not that expensive.

Con's

1) Can be good escape artists, But if taken with care, they are easy to keep in the cage.
