my baby won't eat???

hello everyone i posted a thread not that long ago saying i was getting a baby bearded dragon. Well i have got him/her now but he/she won't eat? i have put a small black cricket in and some cabbage, but still is not eating he/she just baskes on the heat rock?
Is this normal as i have only just got it or should it have eaten straight away?
info will be greatly appricated

Re: my baby won't eat???

My friend holds wax worms in front of her lizzards nose to get her to eat.
Have you tried feeding meal worms?

Re: my baby won't eat???

Hi again (i have replyed on your other thread)

You have to let this bd settle in, he/she has got to get used to it's new home, and this may take a week, but don't worry.
Try ur new buddy with some locust's, mealworm's are only given as a treat (they are like giving sweets to a kid)
Have you got a U.V light in the viv?
Please PM me if u need any info and i will get back to you.

Re: my baby won't eat???

Just to say, if you are doing to leave food in over night use locusts, not crickets.
If you're BD doesn't eat it the cricket may bite them in the night, where as locusts won't do that.

Its just settleing it, so as long as it doesn't seem under weight you shouldn't worry about it not eating for the first week. Just keep an eye on what its doing and maybe if you are going to offer crickets you could feed in another container? That way you always know if the foods been eaten or not and your dragon won't be at risk from bites.

Re: my baby won't eat???

ok he/she is eating now,,,,, but it seems to have this thing about climbing up the wall in his/her viv and then just dropping off
i'm abit worried as i can hear him/her land from the other side of the living room and i'm woirried he/she is going to hurt his/herself
should i just ignore it or take the fake wall out???

Have you got other things in the viv to climb on. You Beardie is prob tryong to get near to or away from heat or light. If you set the viv with a number of things to climb on it will give it a whole range of different temperatures etc. I use pieces of slate or rock made different heights by glueing wood to seperate different levels. This provides interest for the beardie as well as a range of heights and temps. I dont like fake walls on their own because they are only one dimension where rocks and stack provide a whole range and also things to just bask on.

Wink Re: my baby won't eat???

I know its a bummer....but try not using sand...it can be harmful....

I have a cheeky BD and I was told to take my sand out, off a pro, after setting it all up....

Just a thought....

Mine likes being sprayed in the face with water too....not too close tho!!! (more like a mist)

He also likes to be hand fed and loves rocket!!!!

Hope this helps at all....I am a Leo Breeder really, so our BD is just our pet!!
