New Beardie

Hiya,

My housemate has a new bearded dragon male, aged about 18 months. He is pretty friendly and likes being stroked but not being picked up. Is there anything we can do to help him stay calm when we pick him up?

Thanks

Re: New Beardie

Patience is the key. Whilst he is inside his viv, try placing his front 2 feet on the palm of your hand and sit him there for a moment. Do this a few times, over a few days.
Then, once he has got used to that and whilst he has his front legs on your hand try scouping him up, so his back legs are too. So this is inside his viv, he may try to climb off you hand, so allow him to do that, and settle for a little while then try again.

Once he will sit nicely on your hands, that's when you can think about lifting him up or out of his viv.
