hello

i personally think its way to small i know they are small when you get them but they do grow very quick a 3 foot or 4 foot viv would be ideal .

light wise i use exo terra lights 100 watt you will also need the light unit for the light to go in ,i use a ultra violet tube light aswell . or you can have a 2 in one bulb that does both cost around £60 a bulb . but the bulbs i use are £8 and i change the uv light every 6 months for a new one .light bulb i change as and when it goes .

bedding i use forest floor bedding wood bark .

water bowl food bowl and another water bowl for a bath type bowl .

also have a log so he can climb to bask .

i found that the Digital Thermometer was rubbish i would just get the hygrometer non digital .

good luck with your new reptile

if you like beardies , only have room for a viv that size , take a look at the `lawsons / rankings dragon` their set up is basically the same , they are just smaller versions of beardies
heres a caresheet for them

Re: beardy setup help plz guys before i order??

hi there, if you need a new viv have just bought a 3 ft viv from here

Vivariums, Reptile Supplies & Live Food

the delivery was spot on, came the next day.

i have a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft viv as my beardies main home but my family live a few hours drive away so i bought a 3ft viv to put him in when i visit them. The quality of the viv is great and for £40 its the cheapest i have seen, my local reptile store stocks the exact same viv and are charging £85 for it.

Try this site,

Vivariums, Reptile Supplies & Live Food

i have just bought a 3ft viv from them for when i travel to visit family members, its the exact same viv as they are selling in my local reptile store for £85 yet i managed to get it for £40. the delivery was great aswell it arrived before 3pm the following day.

on the note of your set up tho i would highly recomend that you have a minimum of a 3ft viv, i have a 4ft viv which i use in the house.

also i would recomend geting a day/night thermostat for making sure that your viv is at the right temp all of the time.

i know it sounds like a plug for the site above but they do a stat for just over £40
DL1ME Day/Night Dimming Thermostat

i have the same stat which i payed £65 for in my original set up.

hope this helps

richard

Re: beardy setup help plz guys before i order??

i would not leave it for a year to get a larger viv, thats a very very small size you are being given.

Having a beardie is wonderful, but setting up is expensive and tricky, dont rush. your set up needs to be running fo atleast a day to give you time to adjust the heat and get used to it.

My uv tubes run on a timer, it is the best way, that way she is up the same time and goes to sleep the same time.

Remember if the lamp is too close to the floor it will be much hotter than needed and beardie runs a risk of touching it and burning itself.

get advice on floor covering for a baby beardie as some are not safe as they may eat bits up accidently

do you know that a part of your dragon's 'nutrition' comes not from its food, but from its lights. So to be sure that you have a strong UVB-producing reptile light. If you use a fluorescent, the light should be within 6 inches of the animal (4 inches I prefer), and you should replace the bulb every 6 months. If you're using a Mercury-Vapor reptile light, the light can be much further away (and it also produces heat, so you don't need a separate basking bulb), and it will last for 3 years before it should be replaced.
