Bearded dragon is lazy

Hi all I have recently set up a bearded dragon viv and bought my bearded dragon and he is now about 3 months old. When I got him he was fine surprisingly he ate 15 - 20 crickets a day with relish he then went through his first shed and lost his appetite which I assumed would come back but unfortunately has not. He will eat food when I drop it in but only if it walks past him and he make no attempt to chase it I try to vary the diet with crickets and calci worms etc but that has not worked. The tank is a good size at 1.2m x 60 x 50 and I can't see a problem with my temperatures they are 85 at hot end 75 at cool end and 106 at the basking spot. I have an Arcadia 10 % UVB tube running the length and a second tube with standard light. The substrate is reptile carpet calcium and vitamins are given each feed and food is offered 2x daily. Could anyone help!! I am also in the process of having a feacal test for parasites is there anything else I can do? I am also going to swap the regular tube for another UVB.

Re: Bearded dragon is lazy

One of my lizards is very lazy and sleeps most of the time. We struggle to get him to eat sometimes.

Have you tried feeding mealworms?

Does he have veg? Good idea for checking his poo out with a vet, he could have worms etc. Does he bask at all? Do you give him baths? is he perky etc? xx

Re: Bearded dragon is lazy

He seems a little more lively today he came down in the morning and ate around 20 mealworms like he had a real hunger on then about 2pm I gave him 14 crickets and he hunted chased and ate 9. He then had a poo which I thought was a bit runny but I think I may be being over cautious. I think I discovered last night what the problem was. When I set up the enclosure with UVB which I ordered online when the second tube arrived as mentioned in my first post I went to add it to the set up and have realized that the 8% UVB I ordered had been incorrectly sent and they had instead sent me a 6% one which is far too weak. So buyer beware and has taught me to check everything. He is now running from one end to the other defending his territory against his own reflection.

Re: Bearded dragon is lazy

if his poo is a little runny, he may well have worms, so wait for those test results and take it from there!

geesh 6% poor little guy, do you have a 10% now?

glad he is feeling better xx

Re: Bearded dragon is lazy

Actually its normal.Someday you will see your bearded dragon hunting and chasing cricket like he is a lot hunger and someday you will find him very lazy. One thing you can do .Just try some fruits and vegetables for your beardie besides cricket.Let see if he interested with them or not.
