Considering a Leopard Gecko

I'm fairly new to the reptile world, I got a Horsfield Tortoise from a friend a few years ago, and then 2 Turtles from a local aquatics shop that were in a way too small tank for them the year before last. Unfortunately my Tort and my male Turtle passed away last year, and my female Turtle passed away this year.
I saw on the dog section on the forum a picture of someones Leopard Gecko and his little face was just adorable, I didn't know much about them so I have been googling but there is so much conflicting information!

What size enclosure would be suitable for one Leopard Gecko? I have an old fish tank that is 18"x10"x10",would that be suitable to use?

What substrate is best? Some say reptile carpet, others say paper towels or vinyl flooring? I've read slate is a good flooring and more natural looking?

Do you need a heat mat or a basking lamp, or nothing at all because they are nocturnal?

Can you use bog wood in an enclosure? I have some from a fish tank I had, if I boiled it could I use this again?

Does the enclosure need a lid? I know they don't climb well but I have newts as well and they escape from everywhere so I am a little paranoid about lids.
