Unhappy fire bellied Newt help?

Hi,

I Bought 2 fire belly newts a week ago and everything is going well but i have noticed a change in colour of one of them. The newt has changed from a black colour to a brown colour. If anyone can help by telling me why this may have happened I would greatly appreciate it.

Also this i notice a pea sized black ball in the tank this morning. Is this there poo.

im new to all this and have done loads of research.

Re: fire bellied Newt help?

Hi,

I used to keep Fire Bellied Newts (along with an assortment of other amphibians and insects). Some Newts turn brown for no reason, sometimes they can turn a grey/brown colour due to a high temperature in their enclosure, or sometimes because of water conditions. Stress from moving or simply getting used to a new environment can also contribute to or cause a change in colour.

Have you tried testing the water for pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate?
