New to lizards.... leopard gecko or bearded dragon??

Hiya every1,

Im looking to get a pet lizard. We curently have a turtle tank 4ft by 2ft by 2ft. I have been doing a bit of research on google to what it the best lizard to keep as a pet. By the sounds of it its sounds like a lepoard gecko or a bearded dragon is going to be by best option.

I want a lizard that we are going to be able to handle, not to messy to clean (although this isnt such a big deal as we have a dog and had turtles). And just something that we can love and enjoy being with.

Advice would be great. thanks

Also in our turtle tank we have a basking light and a uv light, could we still use these or would we need to purchase new lights with the stuff to keep it warm. thanks

i would say that you would probably be best getting a beardie as leos are sort of nocturnal so sleep most of the day and can be pretty skittish if not handled often and beardies are pretty handleable (ours is just lazy) we have both a beardie and leos, just once you decide what you are going to get do as much research as you can ,you would be better getting new uv and basking light for a beardie as the uv tubes can lose uv after a while. Hope that helps

I had leopard geckos, none of them were nocturnal they always popped out at the most random times during the day they don't need UV, 2 out of my 3 were very handleable(the other one had problems with sight and hated being picked up) and they were always very interesting to watch.

With such a big viv you could have a group of females(males must be solitary) and make a very interesting environment for them.

I agree that beardies are probably better for such a large vivarium and easier to handle if they like it but my preference is leopard geckos
