very ill beardie...anyone have any advise?

Heya
Puff, my 3-4 yr old dragon is very ill. He's got two big lumps behind his front legs and excess fluid in his chest. Having a hard time breathing and not eating anything at all.
The vets reckon its a kidney infection. They took him for 4 days and he's come back looking pretty much the same. They have given him antibiotics, and ive got Baytrill that he's taking daily. Im putting him in reptoboost 2-3 times a day which he is drinking some of.

Im force feeding him blended veg with nutrobal mixed in, but if anyone has any experience with similar problems please let me know what happened, and if anyone can suggest a better idea for feeding him let me know. Puffs spirits are up, he's not sluggish or skinny but im more worried long term, ive had him since he was a bubba so he's part of the family!!
Thanks everyone

Where in the OP does it suggest that the poster has taken the animal to pets @ home for advice?

However, in all seriousness, we really do need some info on the husbandry; including the vivarium size, temperature, humidity, substrate, feeding regime, lighting, heat source etc. The more info that you can give us, the more we will be able to advise.

I'd remove the name from your post, as it could be perceived as libellous...

You have to accept your vets advice. But it does a sound a lot like the calcium deficencies which were very common in Iguanas before they discovered UV.
You know your supposed to change your UV bulb every six months because of the dimishing levels of UV.

All the advice you need is commonly available on line. But vivariums need to be bigger.

Do you work for a pet supplier.

Re: Seriously ill Bearded Dragon

whoever said take him to the vets now can shut up or get some reading skills
my dragon was taken to a vets who can deal with dragons and then reffered to a specialist which cost me an ass load of money cos it was miles away.

It doesnt seem like calcium efficiency to me, he's not twitching an he has no trouble opening his mouth or moving around. the x ray showed perfectly healthy bones.

He is in a 5ft by 1.5ft tank ( 2ft high) with a 100 watt ceramic heat bulb at one end suspended in a ceramic cage, under this is a big rock he basks on. the other side has a big log he sits on...around 6-8 inches away from him at all times is a 4ft uv 10.0 strip light which was last replaced 3 months ago.
His food is calcium supplimented once a week and i dust neutrobal onto his greens 3-4 times a week.
Temps...110 on the heat rock, 82 on the coolside.
I primarily use cornchip substrate but have switched to newspaper until he is better

Re: Seriously ill Bearded Dragon

It seems to me you've done everything you can. When you keep animals this kind of thing is going to happen from time to time. Things become ill and for the life of you, you or anyone else can't fathom it out, and unfortunately the animal winds up dying. It's not your fault, but this is just one of the negative parts of keeping animals. You just have to keep going and hope for the best. Even with today's advances there's still a lot to be learned in veterinary science.
