Question Newbie

Hi

I always find these forums a really useful source of information and as I'm a fairly new dog owner, I find it invaluable. We have an 8 1/2 month old chocolate working Cocker Spaniel which we've had since he was 8 wks. I work from home so he's quite spoilt in having me around all day although he still only gets 2 walks a day and does have to amuse himself for most of the time. We're becoming a bit desperate in that since he was around 6 months old he's started to become aggressive around food and things he's not supposed to have or do. His eyes actually change colour and glow red in the centre which is quite scary and he's bitten my husband twice on the hand and has started to snarl and lunge at us! He wasn't like it before and we just can't think why he's started to do it other than his age. He's not aggressive around anyone else and is great with other dogs. We've just had him neutered as there are a lot of dogs around here and also in the hope it might calm him down. So far, 5 days later, he's actually worse but will give him the benefit of the doubt at the moment as he's still wearing an e-collar. We are also being a lot firmer with him and laying down a lot more rules. Hopefully with patience and time it will cure this rage, but is worrying. Thinks we will have to get a behaviourist in. Any advice would be welcome as we're stumped!

Re: Newbie

Hi and welcome to the forum. Sorry you are having aggression problems with your dog. If you haven't already, you should start a new thread in the dog behaviour section, where you might get some advice. I think food aggression is fairly common.
