they can be trouble-some, specially with behaviour and bad-habits.....its because the concentration skills of a basset is non-excitant  , training can be hard...persiverence is the key, and training should be continued well past the puppy stage.
Also Bassets IMO seem to have behaviour problems when on there own, bassets are a pack dog, its in there instincts to be with someone 24/7
