Wondering what pet to get

Hi,
I'm wondering what pet would be a good, low-maintainace pet for my 8yr old daughter.
I'm after an easy to keep pet due to only having her at weekends and it would be mainly her responsibility.
I was thinking about a goldfish, but I am open to suggestions.

Cheers
Dave

Re: Wondering what pet to get

I had stick insects as a kid and they managed to escape - found a couple a few months later living in a plant in the bathroom.
They were pretty low maintenance though and a good talking point!
Are land crabs like sea monkeys? they were also pretty good easy maintenance but will give her responsibility to feed them and watch them grow!
