Newbie with puppy incoming!
Hello there. My friends call me Ais and I am currently living in Copenhagen, Denmark. I am a part-time student and I have a part-time job, but I have quite a bit of free time on my hands and I can't wait to have some company. I am not looking for a show dog, I am looking for a companion. I know a puppy is a big commitment, that's why I have waited as long as I have, I wanted to make sure I had enough time to devote myself to an animal. Growing up my family owned a German Shepherd, he was fantastic and while I would like to have a large dog again, I simply don't have the space. From what I understand a Pekingese has a big dog personality, with a small dog's space needs. Perfect.
I recently reserved a male Pekingese pup and I will be picking him up on the 12th of July (right around the time he will be turning 11 weeks). I wish I could have him tomorrow, it is very tough to wait for him, though I know it will be well worth it. I have not met him in person, but I have spoken extensively with the woman selling the pups and she thinks he will be a fantastic fit for me, personality wise. She has sent me some pictures, though how many are ever enough? I am hoping for more over the weekend. As I said in my post under the dog forum I am looking for tips on puppy care and any special tips for Pekingese. There is a lot of information online and I am just not sure what information is reliable and accurate; so I thought what better place to go than a dog forum, where I can read about personal experiences and ask questions? ![]() |

Re: Newbie with puppy incoming!
Yes I did pick a name out for him, though it was a toughie. Most of the people I talked to suggested cute names (like Wickett and Gizmo), because he is a little cutie, but I wanted something to fit his "big dog" personality. So I chose Khan. Well, I also happen to be a Star Trek fan, but I was thinking more along the lines of Khan meaning "Lion" in Indian and they are known as the "Lion Dog". Just seemed to fit.
![]() Here are a couple of pictures. I am thinking that the brown on his body may turn more red, as both of his parents have red patches of fur. ![]() |
