Question Demodex

Hi everyone

This is my first post so not very au fait with it all yet.

I have a 6 month old puppy called Lady. She is a weimaraner cross.

She has been getting treated for Demodex mites for the last 2 months and we do not seem to be getting anywhere.

She was on antibiotics and advocate (liquid stuff on the nape of her neck). The antibiotics finished nearly 4 weeks ago and the vet said then that the skin scrape did show a few mites and that maybe it was coming to an end.

2 weeks ago she went back. This time the vet scraped deeply (as was necessary???) and my dog ended up with a bandaged foot and a lamp shade collar for 3 days. The vet said the mites were still there and prescribed more advocate.

The bandage came off last Saturday but my dog's foot is now sore to the point where she cannot put it down (as of today).

I feel like I am banging my head against a wall. She is costing me a small fortune and I cannot claim on my insurance as I am not covered for mites. I am also waiting to have her spayed but this cannot be done until she is all clear.

Was the sore foot unavoidable?
How long does it take to get rid of Demodex mites?
Has anyone else been through this?

I hope I didn't get too carried away for a first post.
Thanks
Sue
