Hello from me and Tilly

Heya,

Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone as I've been on here before and I couldn't sleep this morning so thought I'd register.

I'm 22, living in Huyton, Liverpool, with my husband Paul (we married last August) and our King Charles Cavalier, Tilly, who is 4 We are planning on moving to Allesley Park in Coventry soon, when one of us secures a job and I can't wait

Tilly has had quite an eventful 4 years of life so far, she was brought originally for Paul's nan when she was about 8 weeks old, she wasn't socialised as a pup and had no real toys so destroyed table legs by chewing on them, nan then ended up in hospital as she wasn't feeding herself and giving Tilly her food, so Paul's mum and dad took her in.

As Tilly wasn't on a proper dog food diet, all she would eat was pasta and ham and as you can imagine, she ballooned. Paul's mum, Sue, tried her best to get her to eat dog food and one day she started eating Cesar, so she started loosing some of the weight.

To cut a long story short, Sue died of cancer last year so in her last few months (as she was in Clatterbridge for a second course of radiotherapy after relapsing and then to Marie Curie where she slowly deteriorated and peacefully passed away on August 31st, 5 days after me and Paul married)

I've worked really hard with Tilly, as she got so big at one point she would bark/whimper at the bottom of the stairs as she couldn't climb them and the vet suggested I change her diet to tinned Chappie with some biscuits mixed in. So, that's what I did and she now actually has a waist!

She started having a few problems a couple of months ago when she would yelp when going the loo so the vet put her on a course of lactoluse and metacam, this resolved the problem but it was as if she couldn't control herself as she started having accidents around the house.

Me, Paul and Tilly go down to Coventry almost every weekend to do some work on the house we'll be moving into (it was my nan's, who passed away in April) and the community centre over the road has dog training so one Saturday I went over to enquire and she went for the fist time last week.

Nicky, the trainer, came out the week before to do an assessment on Tilly and concluded that she's very anxious, mainly due to not being socialised and not having any training when she was younger. We also discussed Tilly's recent problems and she suggested we change her diet completely to a dry food diet, so she now has Wainwrights and James Wellbeloved biscuits (100g's at breakfast and another in an evening) and she is doing brilliantly.

I'm looking forward to posting a few queries I have with Tilly on here, especially with training, so I hope you can all help me (btw, Tilly is my first dog as my family are cat people).

Hugs,

Jen

Re: Hello from me and Tilly

Wow, certainly an eventful story and I look forward to hearing more about Tilly. She sounds like she's had a bit of an up/down life?

Anyway, welcome to Pet Forums!

Re: Hello from me and Tilly

She certainly has had an eventful life but i'm sure it doesn't affect how loving she is and how settled she feels with you and Paul.

Keep up the good work
