german wire haired pointer

hi,i have got a gwp bitch who i want to have a litter she has not vwd tested yet but will have her done,she has not been hip scored either is three years old too old to have her hip scored?

I always understood that they could not be scored until the had stopped growing - and as she would'nt have stopped growing until around 15 month, so she couldn't have been done before then anyway.

thankyou just wasnt sure if the hipscore would be better if she was a bit younger,your dogs are beautiful by the way!one of my favourite breeds.

im thinking of getting a gwp later in the year and would be interested in a pup if parents have all relevant health tests ect. is she from working lines?

Hi
She is Wigmansburg lines,her mum works with hawks,I have done some showing with her,but not much recently as i have just had a baby.She is a wonderful pet and is fantastic with kids.she is beautiful aswell! I am going to get intouch with the vets very soon to get all the relevent tests sorted

The minimum age for scoring is 1. If her hips are good it shoudn't make any difference. If they are poor then yes, degeneration will show, but then you wouldn't want to breed anyway in that case.

THe most important thing is to find a vet who is experienced at taking xrays for scoring as a poor xray and incorrect placement can lead to an inaccurate score.
