New Staffie Owner + Staffie say Hi!
Hello all,
I joined a couple of days ago after becoming a surprise staffie owner last friday.
She's called Bessie, she'll be 2yrs old on 16th Feb, is a beautiful dark brindle with a black coat flecked with gold and two little white smudges on her chest and throat. Apparently she was an expensive pedigree, but that's never had a bearing on me having dogs. I've always been the re-homing type.
I already knew the dog as it belonged to a friend of my boyfriends' family, and I'd always said she was a really nice little dog. Her previous owners decided last week that they were finally fed up with her pooing in their house so they asked me if I wanted her.
She hasn't pooped indoors a single time during the day so far, but she does need to be let out quite often. She does seem to be getting separation anxiety when left alone in the dark at night and poops, so we're going to try leaving a lamp on tonight.
She's incredibly timid for a staffie too. We are coaxing out of her shell slowly and managed to get her chasing a ball in the living room, but she is really insecure and submissive. I know her previous owners were quite heavy-handed with her, but for a staffie, a breed that's supposed to be quite fearless, she has a distressingly broken spirit.
I've joined primarily to read up on solutions for the night-time pooing, her severe car-sickness and about spaying. All previous dogs were spayed but came that way as they were RSPCA/Dogs' Trust animals.
So yeah, hello everyone from Bessie & her owner!
