New owner of Jack Russell
Hello,
I got my now Jack Russell puppy four weeks ago. He is now almost 13 weeks old and a treasure. He is proving to be a good puppy, not without normal puppy behaviour of accidents throughout the house and biting bu we are getting a grip on discipline. The first week of bringing pup home were not without problems either, Henry developed colitis and had bloody diarrhoea. He is now on a sensitivity control diet as prescribed by a vet. We are slowly introducing him to purina kibble for puppies. Henry has started to go out twice daily and is used to his lead but refuses to walk - I am getting plenty of exercise, but that wasn't quite the idea! He is a short haired Jack so i wondered if he simply feels the cold! He whines until he gets picked up and then shakes. I would like to walk with my dog at some point, has anyone else experienced this? Pinkminx |

Re: New owner of Jack Russell
I think your jack russell is just nervous, probably about going out, its a big world out there for a small young puppy. Have you tried walking him on the lead in the garden ?
Also try to coax him by holding treats in your hand, smelly ones that he can follow and eventually take from your hand, obviously it will mean bending down !! Our TT was nervous about going out at first until we distracted her from the noises and scary things outside by offering treats every few yards !!. Now she has gained her confidence and instead of being nervous about things, barks at everything, so now we have another problem !! Post a pic if you can would love to see it. ! |

Re: New owner of Jack Russell
Hello and welcome along to the forum - how is he if you pick him up and walk down the street? Still a little nervous?
Maybe he needs socialising to get used to the hustle and bustle of the outside world - take it steady and show him that things are actually ok - treats and lots of praise when he does well - try not to pick him up as he may get used to that and never really over come his nerves Good luck with him. |
