would like to know about the dogue de bordeux

hi all i am looking to get a puppy dogue de bordeux but would like to know about the breed from owners of these beautiful dogs .i have a nice big house with a huge garden and near local parks and drive away from beaches so excercising is no problem as quite a lively household lol .i would like to know what the breed are like with other dogs as i have a 9yr old staffy and worried that once the puppy got to adult size could hurt her being to jumpy over her as she likes the quite life .and the most thing is with children i have a grandson and nieces and nephews and would love to be able to know that they are safe around a dogue de bordeux not that you should ever leave a child with a dog alone together so any advice would be grateful i am looking to get one in about 6mths to a year as want to read up more and hear from people who own these beatiful dogs

Re: would like to know about the dogue de bordeux

Hi
We have a ddb, he is 9 month now and a big teddy bear, we also have 2 rottweilers and they all get along brilliant.
They don't need as much exercise as people think they are quite a lazy breed and i have found he trains easier now than when he was younger.
The main thing i have found it not too teach them them too jump up for toys or attention, teach sit as soon as possible then fuss them as it won't be long before they jump for fuss when you come in and knock you over, which my 17 year old discovered (he is the one who taught him too jump up at people so quite apt lol) they don't like too be left alone for long periods as they love company. where ever you buy your pup from check the history of hips and skin problems as these are the main issues you will have problems with. our young man is off for blood tests and skin scraps next week due too this.
hope this helps a little bit
oh and he is my daughters best friend (she is a small 10 yr old)
