Hi everyone!
My name's Anne, I pick up my Cocker Spaniel puppy, Baxter, on Friday. I've been to visit him at the breeder's house a few times and I can't wait to get him home! I hope to I pick up a few hints and tips from you to help us along the way - no matter how much I've already read I'm still slightly nervous as this is my first puppy (had grown up dogs at home when I was little and big enough to help out with them). I'm looking forward to having a nosey around the site and getting to know you ![]() |

Re: Soon to be puppy owner!
Hi Anne,
I am so pleased I logged on today and read your post. We have two beautiful Cocker Spaniels, Jimi and Eddie. They are a pleasure to have around and we wouldn't be without them for anything. We had two very different experiences with our two (we got them two years apart) when we first bought them home. We got Jimi at about 3 months old and were able to start training him straight away, he did the usual chewing whilst he was teething and actually got through a few pairs of our shoes so be careful to keep valuables out of reach but other than that he was great. We then got Eddie at six months old as he was not getting on too well with my sister who had two very young children. He had become quite possesive and would not let the children near her. Looking back now it's clear to see that she gave Eddie nothing but love and affection and no discipline which made him think he was TOP DOG and ruled the roost. Eddie is now a lovely little dog, very affectionate and not at all possesive. It just takes the right balance of love and discipline. My partner Alex wrote this squidoo lense on Bringing your Puppy Home which may well help you. There's lots of tips and advice. Well good luck with your new puppy and pop some pictures on when you get a chance, would love to see them. Here's a picture of my boys below: Shelley.x Last edited by shelleyabba; 27-04-2011 at 02:31 PM.. |
