Boerboels are definitely not the type of dog for first time owners (need proper training from an early age and can be quite stubborn "at first") but they're not a hard breed to handle at all, if raised with love and respect. They're very loyal, loving, and playful family dogs but with a very strong protection instinct towards their owners.
I agree that boerboels are truly stunning dogs, but they shouldn't be bought just for their "looks". That would be a mistake. In the wrong hands, they're an accident waiting to happen.
