Emma, I'm still not quite sure how this website works. Did you get a recent message that I sent on Oct. 17? Barbara

Re: Blind Cat Owners---Are you too?

Dear Emma,
Thank you for this information, it's extremely helpful. I have this feeling my cat, Boris, is about to become blind as well. Boris had to have his right eye removed last year due to complications from an "idiopathic inflammation" (the medicine used to control the inflammation caused an ulcer that wouldn't heal.) and now the same inflammation has flared up in his left eye.
Both my regular vet and the eye specialist have told me they personally have experience with cats who have lost either the sight in both eyes or both their eyes and as long as I follow the guidelines they told me (same as yours fyi!) he should be fine.
You might like to know that the eye specialist told me that the cat he knows who is blind does go outside and has a regular routine that he follows, so I wouldn't be too worried about letting Sid out.

Thank you again for this information, it's a tremendous load off my mind, because I wasn't sure what the best thing to do would be (i.e. should I put Boris down if it turns out he has to lose his left eye) and it would break my heart to lose my kitty but I certainly wouldn't want to keep him around if he wasn't happy.
