In Love
Hello all, We are in love with the Dogue De Bordeaux. We are looking for informative information about the breed. We have asked at the local vets but the nurse we spoke to openly admitted that Staffies are her breed and there are some lovely dogs wanting rehoming and DDB's have fits and skin problems to name but two health problems,we feel it more prudent to ask the breeders and owners for their honest comments. I have emailed 2 breeders three month ago and have not been emailed back, I would like to hope this is through being busy with their dogues.
A bit of back ground on our Dog family, we had a border terrier x husky for 18 years, he passed after 4 strokes, shareing our home with two yorkshire terriers one with diabetes eventually passed away age 11yrs and her mum old age at 16 years,. We had a std long haired Dachshund the last 2yrs of our oldest yorkies life, then we went from just two dogs to 9 over night, having taken on my step fathers kennel of std Dachs show stock, two were age 15,the younguns 7yrs our own Dachs being 1 year older. We just lost our last two January and Good Friday this year 2010 they were 15. We have been without dogs approx 8 month. We keep looking at the DDB and fall deeper in love the more we look. We would love to chat with breeders and owners of pets too, then we can have information from both sides of the coin if you will. I (the MRS) is Top Dog in the house and hubby merges very nicely in the pecking order with the fur kids lol, someone has to be boss or chaos occurs,we only ever had two scraps with our load but once they knew who was definately top dog they behaved very nicely. I lead with love and not hurt, firm but always calmly voiced.Yes, the DDB's are a very different breed from what we have been used to,but with the health challenges that we have come up against and coped with we feel ready for anything. One of our hounds had to have spine surgery this left him unable to walk or pee or poo on his own, this was taken in our stride, we took care of his every need, emptying his bladder and bowels and teaching him to eventually walk again,we're not light weights we love to the end no matter what, our boy had his spine op age 8 he was walking again after 6 month, we had to video him walking as he being a stubborn bgr would do nothing but look through the wall at the vets so they assumed he couldn't walk,on showing the video the vet exclaimed "bloody hell he goes like a train"! he did his own toileting and lived till 15. We have learnt so much from our dogs and we miss them all so very much,we are still healing emotionally ourselves so it is a good time to learn all we can about the DDB. Thank you reading me.
