Red face Greetings from a New Dog Owner!

Hello!
My name is Kyla and my family is adopting a 2year old Golden Retriever!
We're so excited.
I'm 24 now, and I haven't had a dog since I was 12!
He's VERY different from our old dog (who was an Australian Silky Terrier), he's Bigger, Stronger, Louder and more hyper then anything we've ever taken care of before!
I've been hoping for another chance to care for a dog for a long time.

Because my family is both happy yet anxious, I've come here because I want more then anything to give this wonderful dog a good home.

His name is Dante; his previous family can't take care of him anymore and they are willing to just give him to us if we can assure them he'll be in good hands.
There are 7 people living under our roof, all of various ages. Teenagers, young adults and grown adults.
Most of those living here are boys, but believe it or not, they're very shy around dogs- that is until they met Dante!
Even my lil brother who was nervous around dog, has really fallen for him.
Harry who was afraid, terrfied, actually walked him!

Already we're having difficultlies keeping him in check, he's still very young and acts like the puppy he is.

As I type this, Dante is going to spend his first night at our house!!
He's used to sleeping in a cage back home, but we can afford to buy it for him right now. So we're going to see where he'll choose to sleep.
Apparently, he hates soft places. O_o' But he might choose the rug in the living room. We're all very anxious to see how he's going to adjust.

I know Dante is good for the family, and he's changing all those around him for the better already. I refuse to let meer troubles stop me from being the best owner his previous family could ask for. I hope you wonderful people can help me become that.
I'm so happy, excited, worried and scared all at the same time! It's crazy!
But Dante deserves it.

thankyou for reading.
^_^

Re: Greetings from a New Dog Owner!

Thankyou for the warm greetings everyone! ^_^ Dante has spent his first night with us and it was a rough one, he cried and needed to go to the bathroom a few times but it maybe due to excitment. We'll see.
I'l post more details in the apprpreate forum section.

Re: Greetings from a New Dog Owner!

Hi and welcome to the P/F, well done for adopting Dante, I am sure you will have a great time getting to know each other, I think the important thing to remember is that you are not starting with a blank sheet, he may already have some traits & habits which you might not like, by the same token you may have some that he does'nt like, I am sure that given time and patience any differences can be worked out, all the best, wayne.

Re: Greetings from a New Dog Owner!

hi and welcome!
congratulations on your new addition! It sounds like he's been really good for your family so far , helping your brothers to overcome their fears?
I'm sure he'll settle in soon, with a little patience and routine.
Can't wait to hear more about how he is settling!
