Good morning everyone!
I'm Kim and I have an 8 month old Akita/Collie/GSD Male cross called Scooby!
We're from Coventry in the West Mids.
Scooby is black, tan and a little white with big ears and a sweet face.
He has a curl in his tail like an Akita but the rest of him is pure GSD, we know that his mother was an Akita/Collie mix but no info on Daddy, i was unsure of the Dad's breed, thinking he might be a bit terrier until the growing kicked in when he got home!
I rescued him from Dogs Trust Honiley in January 2010 when he was 12 weeks old.
He'd had a bit of a sad life & I wanted to make that all better
He was born in the kennels as a litter of 8, sadly 5 died of Parvo

Leaving Scooby who is short haired and his two very long haired sisters, his sisters were soon adopted, 1 by a Dogs Trust worker.
Scooby was adopted out to a family who had another older dog, we were told the older dog was bullying and didn't like Scoob so the poor chap ended up back where he was born.
I first seen Scooby on his own in the kennels (very plush I must say, the handlers do an excellent job, very clean and even had heated floors!) the other kennels were full of staffies, boxers and lurchers all fighting with their siblings, but before I'd got over to the puppy block I knew he shared my Mum's birthday & had been given the name Ernest as his kennel name which was my Grandfathers name! He had me on his side to start with!
He was a very bouncy puppy who loved his toys and loved playing, very inquisitive and the staff adored him.
I made my mind up on that first visit that me & him were going to be in it for the long haul, sorted our with the wardens that my end of terrace had enough space and was secure enough for him, filled out all the relevant paperwork and waited and waited for adoption day to come around 10 days later, despite it being a 45 mile round trip I went to see him 4 times inbetween
I always thought I would have a dog that was pure bred, a "proper" dog, but money and a lot of research led me down the adoption path and I cannot say enough how glad I am of my decision!
We have had him 5 months now.
He is such a happy, friendly dog. He is still a bit of a chewer and has on the odd occasion been a bit destructive when he doesn't get his own way. Scooby is very bright and when in the mood can pick up tricks in a matter of minutes with his reportoir including: Shake, Hi5, Sit, Lie Down, Stay (For about 10 metres lol) Roll over, Come.
Walking on lead is something he gets better at all the time, be that collar and lead, harness and lead or halti(head collar) and lead, I vary these as it just makes his walks different and means I have different levels of control.
He does have guarding tendancies but this mainly covers barking when he hears strange noises which is helpful, lying/sitting by the entrance of rooms but not blocking them and he likes to know where I am.
He loves his toys, Kongs, balls, rope and loves to chase however thankfully this does not extend to cars/buses or any other form of transportation! He tries and is succesful in catching wasps, flies, moths and anything he thinks is moving faster than him.
Games he throroughly enjoys are fetch, chase me (when he has something he thinks he should have) tug (although this is getting harder as he now weighs just over 3 stone!)
He dislikes the binmen and sustained period of loud noises but doesnt mind the vacuum or my awful singing
He is very good in the car, be that mine or anyone elses, no crate, just harnessed into the seatbelt buckles.
He is allowed on my bed

but does not sleep there at night with me, he's got his Scooby Doo bed for that!
He is well & truly part of the family & I wouldn't be without him!
That's all I can think of for now, apologies for the essay but get me on a subject I'm passionate about & I can go for hours
Kindest,
Kim & Scooby x
