Help regaring the handling of a bearded dragon

Newcomer to site.Hi all, i was wondering if anbody could give me help/advice on the above subject.i recently got a beardie that is approx 8wk old and about 7 1/2" in length.he seems to be enjoying his enviroment, eating well, and all tempretures right but when i come to handle him he darts off as if he is scared.i seem to get as far as stroking his tale but when it comes to picking him,no chance.should i leave him to climatise to his enviroment more or his he to young to be handled etc.i would like him to get used to me soon as with him being only young,is it to early to manhandle him. any answers much appreciated
