Help. My poor wee cat is having a really bad time. She is sick with almost every meal - even small amounts get brought back up. Although she is not a long haired cat, she always brings up hair balls. I am at my wits end with her. She is six years old and I have had her since easter from a cat rescue centre who didn't know much about her history.
She is a house cat.Last edited by Ziggy; 20-07-2008 at 02:33 PM. |

Re: sick cat
have you tried her on white fish and rice or chicken and rice some foods are too rich for some cats and they easily get upset stomache also a good idea is to go to the vets and the receptionist can advise you on what hills science diet would suit your cat best . they really dont cost much more and they are better made than supermarket brands , also james wellbeloved from petshop/vets is another pure gentle dried food full of all the esential nutriants your cat needs without any of the crap

Re: sick cat
Thank you for your advice. When I got Ziggy at easter I had taken her to the vet because of her continual sickness. It proved an expensive visit - which you kind of expect. she gave me scientific food for sensitive tummies and a lot of antibiotics. But as it turned out she was still sick with the sensitive food. I no longer give her biscuit food as a friend told me that her vet said they can crystalise in their stomachs and are too strong for some cats. That seemed to work....for a while. After posting my message on pet forums i found on the internet that house cats preen themselves much more than outdoor cats and as such are much more susceptible to fur balls & was told that GoKat make a food specifically for house cats to which helps break down fur balls. Managed to find house cat food made by purina - which were biscuits & also found hairball paste to help her pass the hair naturally. Unfortunately was still sick. Took her to another vet for a 2nd opinion who was very thorough & thinks she may be older than I was told - maybe 9 or 10 & has taken blood to see if its a thyroid problem. Started mincing her food as i noticed she doesnt seem to chew it. So far this has worked - so here's hoping a solution is in sight! Am so looking forward to being able to relax & enjoy my very first cat! Thanks again for your replies.

Hi welcome.. And I hope for you and your cat you have found a solution.. There is nothing worse than having a pet/animal who can't tell you how they feel..
Sometimes its so hard and you never get to the bottom of it.. I am sure Ziggy loves you though all the same.. |

Re: sick cat
Thats exactly my cats problem only we spent 5000 on an op that did absolutely nothing! These vets, sometimes I wonder... They said its common, she is a little better feeding her tiny bits at a time and of this specialized food especially for allergies, nausea etc but she still gets sick sometimes more often than not..
My thought is she is actually starting to go delusional. How do you know when its better to put her down. Its enough to kill a human with this stress! ![]() |
