Sorry I realise this thread is from July but a few corrections. Millipedes aren't arboreal. They may climb now and again but they live firmly on the ground, in fact under the ground in burrows.

Millipedes can bite, but it's not a defence, more likely out of hunger. In the wild they will feast on dead animals so if they start chewing on your arm then give them some meat, I give mine slices of cooked ham.

If you want any advice from someone who keeps and has kept millipedes for a while then just drop me a pm or ask me here.
