Help identifying a bug

The other day I was out with my OH and noticed what I think was an ant crawling across a wall. It was quite big, a good couple of cms in length, quite chunky and had a red body with a grey/green bum (haha I say bum but I don't really know what that thing is called sorry!!)

I've been trying to find photos and I wish I'd taken one as I'm intrigued and never seen anything like this before.

I am so sure it was an ant!

Any help is great, I know it's not much to go on

Re: Help identifying a bug

It had a big bum... ok... lol
I think that could be a J-Lo Beetle
Or if it had big pants on, a Feckinscarybug bridget jonesii Latin name of course.

I think in insect terms that's called an abdomen *racks brains* hey I did get a grade B in O-Level Plant & Animal Biology, I'll have you know! lol

Or you can try:
What's That Bug? Insect identification
or

Yes there are people err...obsessed.. NO... dedicated enough to help you ID your umm nightmares oops no, creepy crawlies.
