Re: Who keep land hermits?

i have 2 hermit crabs
ive had them for about 8 weeks now and both ofthem have just been thru there first moult since ive had them

which was a shame on my kids because only a week or so after getting them
the burried and molted and they were under for a few weeks

one of them lost a leg during moulting too which started to pong a little
and we thought the bigger one died so we gently dug him up
he had fully moulted and had eaten most ofthe shedded exoskelleton already
but noticed the pongy leg which kinda stunk really bad so we took that away and gently re burried him as he apeared fine otherwise he came out that night and appears fine exept 1 missing appendage

ive also made a cute hermit crab site if anyone is interested in visiting

hermit land

Re: Who keep land hermits?

hi i got 2 hermits but their quite small i was just wondering because i saw all yours are they separated because you should only mix hermits of the same size together because they'll kill each other also you know the plany cliff hanger is climbing on is it plastic because i got one but i dont know whether to put it in the vivarium with them

Re: Who keep land hermits?

Hiya EmileexXxStrange

In the crabitat with hermies i have had for over a year, they are mixed, as i bought them as a group, from small to small large, they have all lived together like i said for over a year, they all get on really well, infect the little ones follow the largest in there and eat and drink at the same time as him, their a happy family and all get on really well, but i would never add any more to the group because of this.
My 3 largest hermies live together on their own and i'd never add any hermies smaller them then to that group. In the crabitiat i have resued 8, they are small to small medium, again i got them as a group and they too are more then happy together.

You are right bigger ones can kill smaller ones, so its down to your judgement as to how you mix them, but i'd never put small hermeis into as established group or larger ones.

The plant cliffhanger is on is a reptile plant, its plastic and more then safe to put in with your hermies.

Re: Who keep land hermits?

I have 4 purple pincher Hermit Crabs that I got in August after months of reading up on them. I don’t know anyone else who has Hermit crabs.
