Axolotls

I currently have two pet Axolotls and although I find them quite strange, I find them quite interesting. This year I decided to breed my Axolotls so I researched on their breeding and found that if you lower their water temperature it can cause them to breed as this occurs in the wild when mountain ice melts and enters the lake which they inhabit below. To my surprise... after a few weeks of adding ice to my Axolotl's tank I found a huge amount of little white eggs all over the aquarium plants!

I removed these eggs and hatched them accordingly. They were required to be housed seperatly as they can bite each other which may cause them to lose limbs or external gills!

I was just wondering if anyone else kept these aaxolotl's, or if you don't...I hope you can find my little factsheet on them quite interesting. Not many people I come accross understand what axolotls are. So I thought it would be good for me to be informative .

Re: Axolotls

Hi there,

My friend used to keep them and there are some at College. I'd love to keep some.

Wht sized tank do you keep them in? What do they eat? How do you care for them?

How are your babies doing then?

Re: Axolotls

I keep them in a 4ft aquarium with numerous rocks and plants. They eat a diet of worms. It is quite fun feeding them as they suck the worms into their mouths quite quickly. This sometimes makes people jump lol

I have now sold all the babies

I am desperate for an axolotyl...i've wanted 1 ever since I started college 3 years ago but unfortunately we only have space for 1 tank which is full of mine and mum's fish.

Yet another pet to add to the 'when I have my own house' list
