Question Beetle larvae?

Hello everyone my names Victoria. I've recently bought a Goliath beetle larvae in the third stage. I'm having a bit of trouble with mites around Its eyes and spiracles, I've tried rubbing them off with warm water but there are a lot of them.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows a better way of getting rid of these mites, and if anyone has any more information on raising beetle larvae?

Thanks

Re: Beetle larvae?

Oh dear, it's not good that your beetle larva has mites. You need to throw away the soil and get some fresh soil and sterilise it (either by boiling in pan for 30 minutes or put it in the oven at high temperature for 30 minutes). Then flick off the mites with a fine paintbrush and put the larva back in the soil. By the way, larvae is the plural of larva, so as you only have one, you have a beetle larva.

Re: Beetle larvae?

Thanks for the info. I cooked the soil and the mites have pretty much gone from the soil and its body. I'll keep watch incase my other larvae get any but they all seem fine at the mo.

thank again
