Re: Calling all peope who own GALS!!!!!

I;m not sure about general care but I do know that they are haemaphroditic and will occasionally (Not sure how often, I think you're supposed to check every other day) produce lots of eggs (Hundreds I believe). Unless you want thousands of them, you have to humanely euthanize them by popping the eggs into an empty butter tub and freezing them.

The adults also need a calcium source so find a nice bit of cuttlebone or something for them, you can find the in the bird section of pet stores or on the beach

Peace

Re: Calling all peope who own GALS!!!!!

Hi, I've been keeping GALS successfully for years and am glad you like them too! They don't need any soil until they're ready to lay eggs and so I don't put dishes of soil in there when the snails are small. Also, I made the switch to from cuttlefish to eggshells a few years back and my snails have done much better getting the calcium form eggshells. Apparently the salt content of cuttlefish bone is high which is detrimental to the snails's health.

Re: Calling all peope who own GALS!!!!!

Thanks a lot! I will swap over the egg shells..........can this damage the snail though? I mean sharp bits etc.

They have about 2" of soil.......will they bury eggs? Or lay them on top? How will i find eggs if they have laid them?

I do really like them! They are still fairly smallish but i think they might have laid eggs before as the owner said to pop them in the freezer if they do.

The eggshells are ok! i give my GALS eggshells they love it.

If they lay eggs they will most probably bury them so you will need to check every other day.

I've known of GALS to lay eggs quite young so i check my lot regularly just in case.

Best way to find the eggs is to prod around in the soil
