other macleys ! :(

im really worrid now.

about 2 weeks ago one of my female macley stick insects passed away for no apparent reason, and now it seems like my other female is going down hill !

she is sitting at the bottom of her plants looking very lethargic, she also has a dark brown sercretion coming from her bum which is also worrying me

does anyone have any idea of what i may be doing wrong ?
can they get diseases ?

please help me

2x dogs (rottweiler and a jug),
1x african grey parrot,
2x rosella parekeets
4x syrian hamsters (baby, mocha (wiggy), peaches and daisey),
2x winter white dwarfs (sunshine and harry),
1x female leaf insects (doesn't have a names),
1x female corn snake (awaiting eggs),

Oh dear, it sounds like they've got the virus that only Macleays Spectre get. The classic symptoms are a limp body at the end (so they can't curl their tails up like they usually do) and the brown discharge from the back end. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do.

oh bugger, yeh shes had a brown discharge.

how do they get it ??

Apparently it's an air-borne virus. Once it affects one Macleays Spectre, it can spread to the others and so they usually all die. I'm not sure who is selling healthy ones at the moment- I have just looked at the stick insects for sale by Small-Life Supplies, but they don't have Macleays listed on their website at the moment.

well my other macleys did in fact die

im gonna keep a look out to see if i can find any nearby but i do have 4 other leaf insects (phyllium siccifoliums) which im rather happy with at the moment.

sudden deaths are sadly very common with this species, something to do with the years of bad breeding in captivity.
i recently lost all of my nymphs
so dont worry, your not doing anything wrong
