Does anyone keep hermit crabs?

They're something i'm looking into a little bit because they're fascinating and seem relatively simple to keep (no animal is easy obviously!)

so just a quick question because i've heard mixed opinions, would you reccomend a heat mat for them, or is it better to use lamps? Personally i'm swaying towards a heat mat which just covered half the tank, but it's always better to hear it from the experts

OK.... gotta put my two'pennorth in...

Some years ago I went to the RatFest in Florida, organised by Bellaratta, was her Houseguest for a few days before, a few days in between and a few days after.

We had the attraction of Hermit Crab racing... a lady brought her Crabs, a small ghetto blaster with all the righty music and a beautifully made circular racecourse... we made no-money bets on which would get to the outside of the circle.

Bella (my hostess) asked me if I would help out by making a design for a special Tee shirt for the Crab lady, which I did... and it was printed out specially for her.
The top half had line drawings of rats and said "You Might Have Rats..."
and the second half had line drawings of hermits and said:
"BUT I'VE GOT CRABS!!!"

Ive kept land hermit crabs for 3 years & i use heatmat for mine ...not sure if its allowed to post a link here or not so i wont!! but if you google 'absolutely crabulous' that uk site will have all the information you could need on them
