Fulica GAL Egg Question
My albino (Jade) Fulica snail is over 1 year old now + I have had him / her since the shell was less than 1cm. S/he has always lived alone during this time - I have no other snails in the house (that I know of, LoL!), but last night, s/he laid 10-20 eggs! I'm not sure if there were more to come or not, as I disturbed him / her during the daily tank spot-check.
I've been checking on the 'net today + found that "Instances of self fertilisation are rare, occurring only in small populations", but I was wondering if Fulica are meant to regularly lay eggs (the way a chicken does, even when not fertised by a cockerel), or whether this only happens when the snail has attempted self-fertilisation. I realise that it is a very small number of eggs for a Fulica, that they may not be viable + that Fulicas are notoriously difficult to rehome, but I wasn't expecting any at all!!! The only reason I've never got some tank mates is because I didn't want them breeding, but if s/he is going to be doing that by him / herself anyway, I might aswell keep a couple (if any hatch / survive), then dispose of future eggs appropriately
