Unhappy Snail wizzes needed!

Hi, im new to snails and i adopted a few earlier today, i have put in compost as substrate (stuff from a bag that i did not sterilize), some banana, some dandylion leaves (from my uncles allotment) and a cuttle fish bone. also a dish with a few drops of water in. i dont have a spray bottle to keep them humid or a toothbrush tospray the tank. although i can get one tomorrow!
pleese help, i dont know what do do and im paranoid about something happening overnight!
at the moment theyre retracted into their shells on the roof of their (plastick) pet pals tank! i hope they dont fall off, but why arent they on the soil or leaves??
my first snail is a banded snail and the second is a young common gaden snail??? maybe???
PLEASE help!

EDIT: its the morning now and i have to go to school, ill be back for about 5 o clock. i will have a spray bottle by then but i dont want to leave a tub of water for them since theyre so small and might drown!
at the moment the snails are sliming around and theres a few piles of poop on the roof of the tub. they havent touched the food at all!!! (the food is apple, banana, brown bread)

ok well, you wont get this til you get in from school, but if you want to leave water in the tank it's best trying to get hold of ashallow reptile dish whits has ribbed sides so if they fall in they can climb back out. Also try them with more generically liked food such as lettuce and cucumber. they prefer the softer lettuce so i always find the best to use are round, or greenhouse lettuces.

Hi, thanks for your advice! the snails seem fine and are up and eating apple, ill try to buy one of those dishes and ill put some cucumber out! can you tell me why they sleep on the roof of the tank.
also, when i got home from shcool, i found the snail not moving with a clear film attaching some of it to the tank roof then when i took her out she didnt move for ages, what was happening there???
