Question Urgent advice please..

Not even sure if this is the right section to put this in

I have aquatic African Clawed albino frogs that have spawned. A few have already turned to tadpoles.

Have moved the adults as they were beginning to eat them! but there must be 200+

Does anyone know what to feed the tads on or have any advice on rearing them?

The male is still squeezing the female and more eggs are coming but they are scatttering so very hard to scoop out.

Help please

Re: Urgent advice please..

Are these the large African clawed Frogs? xenopus laevis? or one of the dwarf species?
It's pretty rare for them to breed naturally in captivity. The universities have to inject them with a hormone to stimulate them to lay eggs.
From what I remember pond pellets like trout pellets were used to rear them at one time. But I'm sure if you go onto google you can find advice and a specialist diet for them these days.

The interesting thing about xenopus laevis is they were used for early research into pregnancy testing. If you inject the urine from a pregnant woman into a female xenopus she will spawn eggs within 48 hours. Obviously if she is not pregnant they will not spawn.

Hi Paul yes they are the Large African Claweds and no I',m not pregnant and dropped a few drops of urine in the tank !!!

They have all hatched now and there are probably 50 tadpoles swimming around. There would have been more if I had noticed before the adults had started munching and there was a pleco in there too.

They are amazing and even at this young age there mouths are huge!!.

Just hoping and praying they survive.

They are eating baby fish food at present.

Re: Urgent advice please..

I used to keep them and I used to sell them when I had a pet shop.
Then a friend applied for a job at warwick university in their frog room, so I loaned him a copy of the UFAW book which gives the guidelines for keeping them universities. So I had my good friend lecture me for about another five years on keeping xenopus. He was known as "Bob the Frog" by everyone at the university.
