Bringing a horse back into work

Hi all,

I have had a very bad year 2009, had major issues with my pony where i sold him and now have him back absolutly ruined. Have had him back 4 months and he is now ready to be ridden.
I know all about fittening regime, and things but was just wondering if anyone has any experience of bringing a horse back into work after a serious back injury.
I know he is obviously fine if vet etc have said so, however i just feel my pony has been through enough and i want to make sure that whatever our next step is doesnt cause him anymore stress and pain.

Re: Bringing a horse back into work

Hi,

I have a 20 year old TB x ID. She suffered a back injury, which we do not know what caused it - that turned into a pussy lump. The vet was baffled, the lump when up and down for about a year. After the lump went down, everytime I went to get on her she used to buck, rear anything to try and get me off. It took alot time. The best thing for us was a Gel Pad or heat pad for under the saddle, it let off the pressure of me sitting on the saddle.

Gel Eze Saddle Pad

BACK ON TRACK PAIN RELIEF BACK WARMER FOR HORSES on eBay (end time 27-Jan-10 13:30:54 GMT)

Also a lighter saddle such a neoprene one as a pose to a heavy leather one worked also. Its just a case of light work every few days and all possible pain releving mesures taken.. shes now not bothered by it, the lump as gone but if i press on her back in that area she isnt happy at all but with the gel saddle pad used for every ride it works a treat and she enjoys her rides out.

She has had this for 3 years but she has gone on to win countless shows as best ridden vetren (shes 20!!)

On this picture she didnt have the gel pad on which was a huge success!

Good luck !! xx
