Re: Natural horsemanship.

Hello from another Suffolk resident! Don't believe i've ever heard of the group you linked to, may look into it out of curisoity

I think the problem i have with the whole NH movement is that a lot of it is common sense horsemanship wrapped up in marketing. Parelli being a classic example - is it true that to go through the levels you need to have all the branded gear?

I'm all for having a relationship with your horse that goes beyond riding (it does pain me to see hyper-competetive riders hauling their jumpers around for the sake of a rosette without so much as a kind word) but maintain that you don't need a carrot stick and knowledge of whether your horse is left or right brained in order to share a bond! I don't own a horse at the moment but my long-time friend is a great example - she owns 2 very different horses and has never so much as had a rope halter near them but shares a great bond with them

Sure, NH works for a lot of horses and owners (i guess that those horses who need lots of mental stimulation love the games!) but it's not something i would ever buy into beyond the basics.

Re: Natural horsemanship.

Hello i use natural with my horses and problem equines i take in, it is common sense but it goes beyond that and to understand it you need to understand horse language and psycology.

I have used natural for many years now it works for me and the horses i use it on, it causes no stress and gets the horse to think for him self and it shows him the out come is what he makes it.

Horse are unable to reason but they can work things out if ask a question in a way they understand .

Natural is based on herd language which every horse understands many horses prefer to have an alpha rather than be an alpha, horses trust and listen to the alpha who will keep them safe and fed and watered and will alert them to danger, with natural horsemanship we dont want to dominate the horse we wish them to let us be their alpha the alpha will teach manners and respect with in the herd

I believe when we have horses we should not expect them to step into our human world and fully understand our ways and emotions, we should learn about them and step into their world and build a good relationship and learn all we can about the horse we will have a better understanding and less room for mistakes.

Our horses talk to us every time we are with them and they talk among them selves when they are with there own kind the horse has a language we can understand if we take time to learn about body language of the horse they can tell you so much with out making a sound i am so glad i took the time and i will never stop learning.
