Re: Advice Please Back to light work
I would say that if your pony has become lame then 1/2 hour walking and trotting is too much. Maybe just walking which is very good exercise for building muscle. I have to say though, that without seeing and knowing the pony, this question can only really be answered by you and your vet.

Re: Advice Please Back to light work
Sorry I misunderstood your post. If you are wanting to get him back into a fit condition then I would still say the way forward is slow work. This is best for building muscle but is not too strenuous. Why not write out a structured programme so you can keep an eye on what he is doing. For example, week 1, 30 minutes mostly walking, week 2, 30 minutes but with more trot work, week 3 40 minutes, with the extra 10 walking, etc. This is what I have done when bringing injured horses back into work. If at any time it seems too much, you can go back a stage, or you may find he can cope with more so you can adjust as you go along. Hope this helps.
