Saddle advice?

Hi everyone,
Waiting to get Stars new saddle, have been offered for my saddler to come and fit a couple of leather ones but have found on Ebay an offer of two self adjust synthetic saddles, one GP, one Dressage for £260 brand new.
I am thinking about it but I have no experience in self adjust synthetic saddles and dont want to buy somthing like that for it to be a load of cr*p if you get my drift...

So my question is, does anyone have experience in these saddles and what is your opinion on them? Do you think they fit properly and are worth the money? I want some solid opinions before even considering buying one, just feel that as while Stars weight is constantly up and down the self adjust system may come in very handy?

Please give honest opinions!!

Thanks for reading

Re: Saddle advice?

I've never used an adjustable saddle and I'm not familiar with your particular saddling problem but my advice would be to take the advice of your saddler. A good saddler would never sell you a saddle that doesn't fit and to get the best from your horse a good fit is essential. Imagine trying to run in trainers one size too big or one size too small. As long as the tree is the right size and shape for your horse, the saddler can usually adjust the flocking from time to time to accomodate weight changes and muscle changes. So what I am saying is, unless you are confident that you really know whether a saddle fits well or not, don't do it. IMO the saddle is the one item you shouldn't skimp on.

Re: Saddle advice?

Have given it a lot of thought and decided I would rather spend more on a leather saddle.
I would much rather have a saddle that definitely fits that one I am not sure about and as you say I would rather get the most out of my horse and us both enjoy the work

Re: Saddle advice?

i have never used one but my saddler has a good deal

IF you buy a saddle from her, new or used and she fits it to you horse then she will re flock it when it needs doing for free. she also does bowen therapy too. so when i get her out to do this she checks saddle!

If your located in the south i can give you her details.

see if your saddler will offer the same deal on the reflocking!

Re: Saddle advice?

hi

I have had both and some of the new synthetic saddles are really not bad for the money.

As long as the saddle fits well it doesnt matter wether synthetic or leather, but would say if you are doing any serious competing then prob go for leather.

Saying that I had a great synthetic dressage saddle which was covered in equisuede which came up like brand new every time I cleaned it.

which are the saddles you are looking at

Re: Saddle advice?

A saddle is a supportive structure for a rider or other load, fastened to an animal's back by a girth. The most common type is the equestrian saddle designed for a horse, but specialized saddles have been created for camels and other creatures.
I am using English saddles. They are used for English riding throughout the world, not just in England or English-speaking countries.
English saddle is its flatter appearance, the lack of a horn, and the self-padding design of the panels: a pair of pads attached to the underside of the seat and filled with wool, foam, or air.

Re: Saddle advice?

Hiya, I would say if your buying them from ebay and your not viewing them then make sure you check his or her feedback on other items. I have bought and sold a saddle on ebay before with no problem. As long as you make sure you get your saddle fitter to fit them correctly there shouldn't be a problem.

My Star is wearing a Thourogood T4 Cob saddle, it's a synthetic saddle. I tried leather ones but he tends to change shape quite often so it was the only saddle that works for him. It is adjustable at the tree with changable width gullets. He's never worked better in anything else, and if he's comfy I'm happy.

2 years ago I was sold a saddle by a well known saddle fitter and it looked great and was so comfy for me but was wrongly fitted to star. After a few weeks that saddle was up for sale. So I found a new saddle fitter and I even asked for references, it will never happen again.
