Wanting to start riding again CV47

Hi I am wanting to start riding again after a 4 year break. Before the break I had been riding about 17 years and for 7 of them had my own horse. However he got old and retired then was PTS and I have not been on another horse since.

I really want to get back into it but I am not sure I will be interested enough (challenged?) at a riding school longer term (although I do not expect to pick up where I left off). Can any one recommend a good riding school in my area? I have visited 2 but not had much luck and am looking for personal recommendation if possible.

My plan after a few lesson to get back into the swing of things (well as many as it takes!) is to look for a share (can't afford my own but more than willing to work muck out etc and pay some toward keep). As I have been out of the game for a while where is the best place to look for this sort of thing? I keep browsing the ads in feed merchants etc but is there somewhere better?

Thanks
Amy

Re: Wanting to start riding again CV47

I looked in my local friday ad not the best place but found some good sharers.

Have you thought about going on a days hack rather than doing lessons? I'm similar to you in that I stopped riding for ages lost my confidence a little but I did lessons and it was the wrong thing for me to do. The horses were used to going in a circle and the instructor was less than enthusiastic in here training. A days hack though for a few weeks was fabulous and alot of places offer them.

You could also try the local horse rescue if you want to get back into the care side of things it doesn't take long and they could always do with the help

Good luck into getting back into the saddle....... I did.... after 25 odd years !!!! I went and took a few lessons at a very good riding school.... but before long you do get a little bored with riding school horses..... I actually saw and fell in love with a wee horse a mile from my home, which lucky for me had a price tag on...... Two days later, when my hubby came home from work I told him that i had just bought that wee black horsey........ Ebay it was... for everything..... from a lead rope to brushes to saddle etc etc..... Go for it.... you will love it..... Pamx
