Talking My old lame pony *lots!!*

I'll post about my other horses in a bit, but Scottie deserves a thread to himself

I've known him 13 years now, i used to ride and compete him, and had always promised him somehow, i would own him and give him the retirement he always deserved.

2 years ago, against all odd's i finally managed to own him with thanks to a very special friend. Every year previously he lost a lot of weight, and it happened again that winter. He arrived with malabsorption, an infection and severely bad teeth. He was that poorly he was almost on the point of collapse, me and our great vet agreed to give him just a week to see if i could pick him up again, as he just wasnt able to keep anything in him and digest it enough. He nearly died.

Long story short, he very slowly made a fantastic recovery. He competed one last time under saddle after that [ridden by a good friend of mine this time] and then i retired him.

He is now 32 years old [33 in october!] and has poor stifles and a bad hip due to a lifetime of showjumping and a fall on stones, which he is now recieving steroid injections for. He is a totally changed horse now, although still totally neurotic, he can now be stabled happily, and is generally loving life, even if he is 'mechanically' lame for life.

I love him with all my heart.

Now

He gets to still pop a little jump once in a while

Hope you like

Proof he's happy

Wont happen i'm afraid.

Forgot to add, some of the horsey folk might recognise him - his story has been in equestrian magazines for the last 6 months

He is absolutely stunning and looks nowere near his age
He is probably more active than my 12 yo TB mare haha
I braught mine back to health after loosing a lot of weight over the winter and you will probably agree it really is the most rewarding thing in the world!

Congrats for doing such a good job with him! Definately enjoying his retirement!!

Re: My old cripple veteran pony *lots!!*

WOW he is GORGEOUS for his age I think there should be more people like you who retire ponies after they can't be competed much any more it annoys me when people give ponies up just because "there to old" or "they don't have any use no more" it's riddiculous but people like you are angels to old aged ponies who i must say are simply the best

Re: My old cripple veteran pony *lots!!*

Aww thankyou Lucky!
I find it sad too. I can understand if they cant afford two horses, but i think they really do deserve a final resting home! I knew he wouldnt be able to compete forever, but that didnt matter. He's cost me 15x more than he is worth, but i'd do it all again.

Thankyou girls, that really means a lot
