We have very mild weather and all it takes is that and a shower of rain again the midges come out. I use ours all year round, thats the payment for having an itch free pony

Yeah i alway thought that. I was lucky mine was fine with her's. Don't think i'd have kept it on all year round though, I thought the first cold snap killed them off

If you don't like the boett, try a Rambo Sweet Itch Hoody, works fab and is so much easier to put on

Mine had hers on till November last year!!! x

Re: When Can I Ditch The Boett???????

my filly has sweet itch - had to keep her snuggyhood rug on until the end of november this year - thats what happens when you live by a river! - but she's still got it off now - but i know it'll be back on again by march - she is also being fed brewers yeast and i have the nettex itchstop cream to hand for whent he midges start to emerge.

Re: When Can I Ditch The Boett???????

A friend of mine uses to put the garlic supplement in her horses feed, This seemed to be a very good bug repellent and I dont think they like the smell and taste of garlic!!
I would advise this but also use a sweetitch rug for a while!

I have never personally used this because iv never had a horse with sweetitch but may be worth a try!!!
